Dermal fillers are gel-like substances made up of hyaluronic acid that are injected beneath the skin to assist in treating fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers also help restore volume loss associated with aging and adds definition/contour to desired areas of the face.
Hyaluronic acid is a highly hydrophilic (water attractant) component of collagen that is found in all living cells. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to bind 1000 times its weight in water, in turn, introducing hydration and volume to the skin.
Dermal filler is typically used for those who are suffering from volume loss associated with aging. As we age, the skin undergoes several changes including loss of elasticity, less collagen, loss of/redistribution of facial fat and dryness.
