Post Treatment Experience
Please note that after microneedling, you will look as though you have a moderate sunburn, and your skin may feel warmer and tighter than usual. This is normal and will subside after a few hours. Your skin will typically recover within 24-48 hours. Your practitioner will prescribe post-procedure skincare that is approved for use with microneedling.
What exactly is PRP?
“PRP” stands for “Platelet-Rich Plasma,” which is your blood plasma that has a higher concentration of platelets than normal. This platelet-rich plasma has a high concentration of growth factors. Microneedling with PRP is a treatment where this platelet-rich plasma is placed back into the skin, at the site of an injury, in order to make tissue grow and heal faster. Microneedling with or without PRP?
In microneedling, without PRP, the skin is pricked with tiny needles to stimulate collagen production. Hyaluronic Acid, and/or other Growth Factors, are applied to the top of the skin. It is a minimally invasive procedure that is nearly painless.
In microneedling with PRP, the skin is pricked with tiny needles to stimulate collagen production and then inserts your body’s platelet-rich plasma to stimulate the normal growth of new skin cells, such as those needed to smooth out scar tissue. The interesting thing is that the growth stimulated by PRP looks just like the normal growth pattern, and not like the thick skin growth of scar tissue.
How does the clinician get the platelet rich plasma?
It’s not terribly difficult, really, but it works like magic. A small amount of your blood is drawn and placed into a centrifuge, which separates the platelet-rich plasma (the white blood cells) from the red blood cells.
